nights at Ely's Blue
Heron Bed and Breakfast,
located on South Farm Lake at the Western Gateway to the Boundary
Waters. Canoe, hike, or mountain bike right from the B&B. In
winter snowshoes are included with your room or you can ski right from the
lodge. From may through October you can drive from Ely to the Gunflint Trail along the southern
border of the BWCAW via the scenic back roads - known by locals,
wildlife and used by few others - we will annotate a Forest Service map for you. Picnic (included) beside a remote picturesque
lake or creek enroute. Be sure to watch for moose along the way. On
the Gunflint, the eastern Gateway to the Boundary Waters, spend two
nights at Poplar
Creek Guesthouse B&B.
While on the Gunflint hike-in to the overlook at Honeymoon Rock,
mountain bike, or canoe. For winter fun the Banadan ski trail goes
right thru the property. Finally on your way home you travel along
the incredibly beautiful North Shore Drive of Lake Superior - a
National Scenic Byway. Or reverse the order Poplar Creek first and
Blue Heron second.

SEASONAL
HIGHLIGHTS:
SPRING - Trees bursting with new leaves and tiny forest flowers. Fast moving
creeks and rivers and splashing waterfalls.
SUMMER - Warmer weather and a time for a refreshing swim in a
wilderness lake and a time to pick berries, in July wild strawberry
arrive followed in August by raspberries and blueberries. Late summer
is also when you are likely to see a cow moose with her calf.
The FALL leaf
color season runs from
mid September through mid October but varies in timing in different
areas of the forest and along Lake Superior. The fall Boundary Waters
colors are spectacular!
WINTER - Embrace
the silence of winter wilderness with its unsurpassed beauty.
Wildlife viewing at its best. Ski, snowshoe or hike. Relax by a warm
fire.
