You’ll be guided to remote Sundew Cabin via the Fernberg Trail and an old logging road.  Located on 25 acre Sundew Pond, it is owned and operated by Log Cabin Hideaways (www.logcabinhideaways.com).  Sundew doesn’t have running water or electricity but it is fully equipped to be comfy and cozy.  This one bedroom log lodge has sleeping space for 4 or even 6 friends.  Enjoy exploring this remote area, bird watching, spotting wild game, and listen for the wolves.  Relax in the wood fired sauna.  Chef Ted L’Alier, of Blue Heron, will package all your meals for reheating on the gas stove/oven. 

On day 3 you’ll trek by ski or snowshoe across this corner of the BWCAW using lakes, the Kawishiwi River, as well as portage and dogsled trails.  Two routes are available: approximately 3 and 5 miles with several side trips (see map below).  We’ll provide an annotated map so that you can make choices depending on weather/snow/ice conditions and your skills.  A guide can accompany you if desired.  Trail lunch provided.  

Your luggage will meet you at warm and welcoming Blue Heron (www.blueheronbnb.com) on Farm Lake, at the edge of the BWCAW.  Private in suite rooms: choice of a King bed or a two room suite with a Jacuzzi tub.  You’ll savor Chef Ted’s 5 course, classic and wild game dinners both nights.  You may want to add wine from our list – but leave room for his fabulous desserts!  After dinner, relax sore muscles in the wood fired sauna.  Mornings, Blue Heron owner Jo will treat you to her best loved breakfasts.  Explore more of the BWCAW on the BH foot trails or opt for more ski/snowshoe adventures.  Watch the winter birds, read from the extensive collection of books or just sit by the fire.  Finally, we’ll shuttle you back to pick up your vehicle. What could be easier?  Enjoy the adventure. Relish the luxury.

This is a ‘no hassle’ adventure:  Bring your skis or snowshoes and personal gear.  Prepare for your remote ski by bringing a small backpack with extra socks, mitts, water bottles, a compass, matches, a candle and a foil emergency blanket.  How about your camera?  We take care of all the rest!
